A coffee cup in the middle of the throne room. A school bus on a dirt road in the distance. The seam of a prosthetic nose. These little gaffes have all happened in movies.

Have you been reading a gripping thriller or a steamy romance, only to find a really bad typo or a confusing sentence fragment? Yeah, me too. In a VERY popular fantasy novel, the characters gather for Solstice "when the night and day are equal." Um, nope. That is Equinox. This is what takes me right out of the story.

(I finished the book. It was awesome but that just shows that even best sellers can suffer from editing errors. And as I say, "only God can be perfect.")

The straight answer to the title question? Because you need another pairs of eyes, maybe two. And it helps if they are skilled. Your brain will fix the mistakes. That's its job among a million other things. You be the creative soul and let someone else find the errors and blind spots where the story can get just that much better.

Hello, welcome to this page! I'm Jay, an experienced publishing professional. I've dealt with all aspects of newspaper and magazine publishing (except the printing--I left that to the magicians at the press).

I want to help aspiring and experienced authors produce polished work and look like a million bucks too. Wouldn't it be great to earn that million? If wishes were horses...

Take a look at my work in the portfolio. Then read about my services--manuscript review, chapter critique, full-service editing, query letters, synopses. Also page design and production of marketing materials. I can also do media training for radio, podcast, TV and live book tours. Please ask me any questions you have. I would be happy to chat about your writing, publishing, reading--anything about books.

I read mystery, romantasy and fantasy, science fiction, memoir, contemporary and literary fiction. I am also a writer (scholarly, magazine and newspaper features, now working on fiction).

I tell stories and I want to help you tell yours!
